Use Vocabulary Websites to Become Smarter Each Day

The web is an endless resource for entertainment and information. You probably go online each day to find your bank balance or local weather forecast, but have you thought about using the web to beef up your English vocabulary? The next time you’re surfing the internet from your Louisville home, head to one of these 5 websites to learn new words and become smarter each day.

1. You’ve heard of Merriam-Webster, the people who bring us vocabulary resources such as dictionaries and thesauruses. Did you know you could go to their website for a Word of the Day? If you like it, listen to a podcast detailing the word of the day or sign up for the ‘Word of the Day’ email.

2. If you’d like to spend your online learning time becoming bilingual, try About.com’s Spanish Word of the Day. Once you get to the website you can sign up for a daily email. Think about it, one Spanish word a day could really add up over time!

3. If you want to play with words instead of just learning them, try this Daily Word Search website. You’ll have fun solving the puzzle every day and you’ll keep your mind sharp in the process.

4. Lacking inspiration? Go to Motivational Quotes of the Day for uplifting quotes.

5. If you feel like you need a break and want to do something silly, check the Unnecessary Knowledge website. Refresh the page to get another piece of knowledge if one-a-day just isn’t enough.
